My Story

In 2018, we lost my mum to motor neuron disease (MND), and my family and I have since had to navigate life without her. As a child, I saw first hand how devastating and quick-moving this disease is.

MND is a progressive neurological condition that destroys the nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord responsible for movement, causing muscles to waste away. It causes escalating muscle weakness, impacting walking, speech, swallowing and breathing. It is life-shortening and currently has no cure.

MND Scotland fund MND research and clinical trials, but much of their day-to-day work is making time count for people with MND and the loved ones supporting them. This could be through helping families make memories through accessible holidays, grants to improve quality of life or securing essential home adaptations faster. 

With Mum being Scottish, MND Scotland felt like a great charity to raise money for in her honour and I can’t wait to abseil!
